Willie Goldie Finney

Ms. Goldie Finney passed away on May 20, 2023, at the blessed age of 98.  Willie Goldie Finney, better known as Goldie to her family and friends, was born on April 10, 1925.  She was born to the late Birdie Hairston and the late Harrison Finney in Martinsville, VA.  She graduated from the Henry County Public Schools and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commercial Education at NC A&T College (University) in 1948.  While there she became a member of of the (AKA) Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  Goldie went on the teach for some years in Chase City, VA until she relocated to the Bronx, NY.  During her time in the Bronx, she also went on to acquire a Master of Arts Degree in Education from New York University in 1960.  For a time she worked for New York Telephone and later became the director of the Upper West Side Community Corporation located in Harlem, NY.  Goldie served as a helpful hand for many years in the community, until she eventually retired there.  She was a dedicated member of the Fellowship Covenant Church in the Bronx, NY under the leadership of the late Pastor, Rev. Jerry Mosby.  Over the years she frequently traveled back and forth from NY to Martinsville, VA.  She will dearly missed and remembered by family and friends as having a feisty yet loving spirit to all.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Estelle. Letitia, Carrie Nellie and John.  She is survived by a great host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday May 27, 2023 at 1:30 AM at Carver Memorial Gardens with Dr. Eric F. Hairston, officiating.  The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service.  A public viewing will be held Friday, May 26, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel.
