Larry Dickerson Obituary

Larry Bernard Dickerson, 76, of Martinsville, VA transitioned on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at his home 710 Laurel Park Avenue, Martinsville, VA.

He was born March 9, 1949 a son of the late James and Rosalyn Swanson Dickerson.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Martin Dickerson, and his son, Kenyon Sneed.

Larry was a graduate of Southside High School in Blairs, VA and was a faithful and devoted member of New Sharon Grove Baptist Church where he loved the Lord and cherished fellowship with his church family 

He devoted more than 30 years of service as an independent truck driver with Dickerson Trucking, LLC, and also worked as a local transportation driver serving the community.  Larry was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and unwavering commitment to providing for his family until his retirement, Though the road often called him away, his heart was always with those he loved.

Larry was preceded in death by those who lovingly raised him, A. D. and Inez Dickerson.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Linwood, Sterling, and Alvin Dickerson; four aunts, Idabell Finney, Inez Draper, Loney Martin and Marvia Mebane and one uncle Lloyd H. Dickerson.

What mattered most to Larry was his family and his church.  No matter how busy life became he attended family events whenever possible and showed up with pride.  Larry had a true passion for helping others - doing whatt he could, sharing what he had, and giving from his heart.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving daughter, Amber (Rick) Dickerson, Patricia Frink, mother of his daughter all of Whiteville, NC; one step daughter, Tabitha Carter, of Martinsville, VA; two sisters,Joanne (John) Gilchrist and Glenda (Arthur) Rainney, both of Augusta, GA; one brother, Lonnie (Kathryn) Dickerson, of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren Rondell (Trinity) James, Precious James-Carter (Kia) and Seth James, Joshua Carter and Kenyon, Jr; sister-in-law, Bonnie Dickerson; three aunts, Loretta Callands, of Winston-Salem, NC; Helen (Mack) Coles, of Blairs, VA; and Shirley Woods, of Danville, VA; one uncle, Franklin "June" (Linda) Dickerson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 Due to weather constraints this weekend the memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 1:00 PM at  New Sharon Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Penn, officiating.  Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends at the home on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM only.
