Evangeline (Johnson) Hagwood

Mrs. Evangeline Hagwood, 97, of Midlothian, Va and formerly of Martinsville, VA transitioned on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Bickford Assisted Living Center in Midlothian, VA.  She was born February 16, 1927 in Cerro Gordo, NC a daughter of the late Bob Moses and Ethel Gerald Johnson.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jewel Hagwood.

She was retired from the Martinsville City School system and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she served on the Deacon ministry and Culinary ministry.

Mrs. Hagwood in survived by one daughter, Lera (Cloteal) Stephens, of Chesterfield, VA; one son, Randolph Vereen, of Mullins, SC; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Kelvin Perry, officiating.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral and will be receiving friends at her home at 1662 Roundabout Road, Martinsville, VA on Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 3:00 to 7:00 PM at other times.
