Dorothy (Stanley) Hughes

Mrs. Dorothy Stanley Hughes, 93, of 2006 Sunset Drive, Bassett, VA transitioned on Friday, May 24, 2024 at her home.  She was born December 1, 1930 the second child born to the late George and Gaynell Manns Manns.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Stanley and her second husband J. C. Hughes; three sons, Eugene, Donald, and James Stanley; five brothers, Andrew, Jimmy, Jesse, and Joe Louis Manns and Roger Dillard; four sisters, Eliza Blount, Lucille Martin, Garthell Stanley and Ida Reed Via.

She was a faithful member of Waterway Temple Church of our Lord Jesus Christ where she sang in the Senior choir for a while and helped with the food preparation.

Dorothy was also retired from Bassett Superior Lines after 23 years of service.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Lisa Hill, of Eden, NC and Lora (Willie) Wynn, of Norfolk, VA; a special granddaughter, Natoria Reeves, of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Willie Hairston, of Bassett, VA; and Ruth Bimbo, of Mt. Vernon, NY; three brothers, William (Nancy) Manns and George (Claudine Manns, both of Bassett, VA and David (Faye) Manns, of Callands, VA; 6 grandchildre, and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Waterway Temple Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Waterway Circle Bassett, VA with District Elder Antonio Hargrove, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Manns Family Cemetery in Bassett, VA.  The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 2006 Sunset Drive, Bassett, VA.  A public viewing will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hiines Funeral Services.
