Dora Mae (Hodge) Carter

Dora Carter 70, of Axton, VA transitioned on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Sovah Health Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County.  She was born in Henry County, VA a daughter of the late James Arthur Hodge and Mary Scales Hodge Hairston.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Carter, one sister, Janice Walker and one brother, Arthur Hodge.

She was a member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a missionary and on the J. H. Harris Choir.  She was disabled from Star-Tek.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John H. "Skie" Carter, of the home; one son Brian Carter, of the home; and one sister, Barbara Pritchett, of Martinsville, VA.

Funeral service will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Eric F. Hairston, eulogist.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 2550 A L Philpott Highway, Axton, VA at other times.  A public viewing will be held Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Hines Funeral Service from 2:00 to 6:00 PM.
