Zena Darlene (Preston) Smith

Zena Darlene Preston Smith, the first born of John Robert and Cleo Williams Preston, transitioned from earth to heaven on July 7, 2023.  Zena was born September 16, 1963, in Bronx, NY.  Her grandparents were the late Joe and Mariah Preston and J. C. and Clara Williams.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Robert Randy Smith and son, Randall Preston Smith, both of the home; her sister, Rev. Juanita P. (Willie, Jr.) Graham, of Newport News, VA; one niece, MaKenzie Lynn Graham; uncles, Gale Preston, Charles (Edna), and Louis (Mildred) Preston; aunts, Irma Preston, Pat Preston, Collas Williams, Barbara Strawn Williams, Mildred Williams Preston and a host of loving cousins and friends.

Zena graduated with honors from Laurel Park High School in 1981.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Averett University in Danville, VA.  She was employed by the Henry County Treasurer's office for almost 30 years.  She was previously employed by Piedmont Trust Bank.

Zena accepted Christ at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized July 16, 1971.  In 1998 she was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel by Jerusalem Christian Church (DOC) and the Piedmont District Convention.  She was an Associate Minister at Jerusalem.  Zena was a dedicated Spiritual Leader and a gifted Sunday School Teacher.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Jerusalem Christian Church with Rev. Eugene Reynolds, eulogist.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral. A public viewing will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM and will be at the home of her parents (John and Cleo Preston) from 3 to7  651 Laurel Park Avenue Martinsville, VA other times.
