Dorothy Mae (Hairston) Mills

Dorothy Mae Hairston Mills, 90, of 1131 Banner Street, Martinsville, VA transitioned on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the home of her daughter, She was born in Henry County, VA a daughter of the late Joe Alonza and Susie Hailey Hairston.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Mills; two sons, Carson Mills and James Mills; one daughter, Sallie Mills; four brothers, Thomas, Joe, Horace and Dana Hairston; one sister, Eula Lee Hairston and one daughter-in-law, Thenia Mills.

She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the missionary ministry and was a former member of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church of Christ in God.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Matilda (Joseph) Kellam, of Ridgeway, VA; and Jennifer Crutchfield, of Martinsville, VA; four sons, Thomas (Marie) Mills, of Dededo, Guam; Howard and Vincent Mills, of Ridgeway, VA; and Jonathan Mills, of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Lula (Lawrence) Jones, of Martinsville, VA; and Rubena Dillard, of Concord, NC; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and one life long friend, Shirley Burgess and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 10, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Ridgeway, VA with Rev. Kenneth Hairston officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hailey Family Cemetery on Brass Shop Road in Ridgeway, VA.  The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home of her daughter (Jennifer) 1131 Banner Street, Martinsville, VA at other times.
