Cecil Percell Jones

Deacon Cecil Percell Jones, 70, transitioned on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at his home.  He was born on May 11, 1952 a son of the late Jimmie Jones and Bloncie Mae Gentry.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lafayette and Norman Jones and one sister, Lenora Jones Gravely.

He was a graduate of Martinsville High School and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he served n the Male Chorus, Deacon and chairman of the Trustees.  He was also a member of the Sons of Solomon Lodge #111 with a 32nd degree.

Cecil loved people, didn't meet any strangers; everybody was someone to him.  He could start a conversation, even if you didn't respond to him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 30 years, Doretha G. Jones, of the home; two daughters, whom he loved dearly, Kometa (Lawson) Dodson, of Ridgeway, VA; and Stephanie (Scott) Hairston, of Martinsville, VA; one stepson, Dewayne (Angie) Moore, of Waynesboro, VA; one sister, Vernita Gentry, of Blacksburg, VA; two brothers, Steve (Sylvia)  and Leonard Jones, both of Martinsville, VA four grandchildren, one great grandchild, three step grandchildren and one step grandchild.  He also leaves behind a loving mother-in-law, Adrene Cox, who he called "June", of Martinsville, VA; one sister-in-law, Carodene Spencer, four brothers-in-law, Daniel (Maxine) Gilbert, of Reidsville, NC; Steven (Marilou) Gilbert, of Jacksonville, FL; and Benjamin and Kenneth Gilbert both of Martinsville, VA; his father-in-law, William Gilbert, of Bassett, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews and church family whom he loves dearly.

A service of celebration will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Greater International Penetecostal Church Building at 980 Carver Road, Martinsville, VA with Rev. Benjamin Redd, eulogist and Rev. Charles Whitfield, presiding.  Burial will follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 445 Southland Drive, Martinsville, VA at other times.  A public viewing will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00 at Hines Funeral Services, Inc.
